You can also contact your local Branch or Command of昀ce if you have any questions. Do you know a student who is artistic, has a way with words or could be the next great movie director? The Legion's Youth Contests offer a variety of mediums to engage students through artistic, written, or video expression while learning about patriotism, service, and sacri昀ce. Any student attending school in BC and the Yukon can apply. (For details regarding video submissions, please see the Video Contest section on the next page.) Poster and Literary Contest Students have the opportunity to win prizes at the local Branch, Zone, Provincial, and National levels. The contest is divided into the following 4 grade categories: • Primary (poster only) - Grades K, 1, 2 and 3 • Junior - Grades 4, 5 and 6 • Intermediate - Grades 7, 8 and 9 • Senior - Grades 10, 11 and 12 The Poster Contest has two divisions - colour and black and white. The Literary Contest also has two divisions - essay and poem. Entries are submitted at their local Branch level. Winning entries then proceed to the Zone, Provincial, and National level. The national winning entries in each category are displayed at the Canadian War Museum from July 1 to May 1 of the following year. The second-place winners and any entries receiving an Honourable Mention are displayed in the foyer of the House of Commons during the annual Remembrance period in November. The Legion also sponsors a trip to Ottawa for the senior winners in the four contest categories - two posters, one essay, and one poem - to attend the National Remembrance Day Service where they place a wreath on behalf of the youth of Canada. They also have the opportunity to meet and visit with the Governor General. Students can enter as many contests as they wish, but can only submit one entry per category. Deadline to submit entries to the Local Branches is November 15th. Please note these are the Branches closest to the student’s school. To participate, schools should contact the local Legion in their area in September for details.
