387 In the Service of Canada AIR FORCE biographies Fritzke, Rueben Elmer (Tony) Rueben was born in Fenwood, Saskatchewan on 28 February 1926. Tony was the fourth of eight Fitzke siblings to join Canada’s services. With his father’s consent at age seventeen, Rueben joined the RCAF in October 1943. He enlisted at Regina and was transferred to #2 Manning Depot at Brandon, Manitoba. In 1944, Rueben was transferred to #2 I.T.S. (Initial Training School) at Regina and then in June of that year went to the T.T.S. (Technical Training School) at St. Thomas, Ontario. In September of 1944 Rueben was transferred to the #37 S.F.T.S. (Service Flying Training School) located at the southern end of what is now the Calgary International Airport. His next wartime posting was to the #10 S.F.T.S. at Dauphin Manitoba before finally ending at RCAF Rockcliffe, Ontario in 1945. After the war, Reuben was posted to the M.C.H.Q. Uplands in February 1946. His wartime service was recognized with the War Medal 1939-45 and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal; He was Honourably Discharged in 1946 with the rank of Leading Aircraftsman. Reuben was a legion member for fifty-three years until his death in 2012. Fritzke, Robert John Born on 16 July 1936, Robert John Fritzke, was the seventh of eight siblings in Canada’s services and one of six Fritzke’s to join the RCAF. He enlisted on 12 January 1954 at Brandon, Manitoba and was sent to St. Jean, Quebec for nine weeks of military training. Soon after, Robert was posted to Camp Borden where he trained as a technician for piston driven aero engines. A posting to CFB Trenton came next where his primary duties were to maintain Harvard trainers. Robert’s next posting was to the CF-100 engine school at North Bay, Ontario followed by a posting to 419 Moose Squadron at North Bay where he remained until honourably discharged in 1957 with the rank of Leading Aircraftsman. Robert now resides in White Rock, British Columbia and is a fifty-nine year member of the Royal Canadian Legion. �
