383 In the Service of Canada AIR FORCE biographies Fitzke, Herman Goldie Herman was born in Fenwood, Saskatchewan on 21 December 1930. He was the sixth of eight siblings to serve Canada. At age twenty-two he joined the RCAF at Regina, Saskatchewan in 1952 and went to Saint Jean, Quebec for basic training. Herman was transferred to Clinton, Ontario for Ground Communications Technician training and then posted to Toronto Ryerson Institute for two additional years of training in Ground Communications. He served at Clinton Saskatchewan, Comox British Columbia, St. Lachine and Knob Lake Quebec, and finally at Saskatoon. He was honourably discharged in 1957 with the rank of Corporal. He moved to North Vancouver in 1957 and remained there until his death in 1991. Fitzke, Hertha Claire (Clara) Hertha was born in Fenwood, Saskatchewan on 15 February 1923. She enlisted in Regina in 1943 with the RCAFWomen’s Division as an Air Woman 1st Class. Clara served as a General Duty Office Clerk. She was honourably discharged and transferred to the Reserves, General Section Class E. Clara served at Rockcliffe Ontario, Vancouver, Paulson Manitoba before released at Winnipeg in 1946. She was awarded the CVSM and War Medal. Clara died in 2001 at Cranbrook, BC.
