351 More than 350 members from 145 Royal Canadian Legion branches from across British Columbia converged on Nanaimo from 2 – 5 June for the Legion’s B.C./Yukon Command’s 55th biannual convention. Hosted by Royal Canadian Legion Branches in the Central Vancouver Island Zone, the event took place at Vancouver Island Conference Centre and addressed the future direction and business of the Legion in BC and the Yukon. Dignitaries and national representatives of the Legion were in attendance and placed wreaths at the opening ceremonies on behalf of veterans and the various levels of government. Special attendees included Berkley Lawrence, Vice President of Royal Canadian Legion (Dominion Command), Joann Walton-Memorial Cross Recipient, Sheila Malcolmson, MLA for Nanaimo, Valerie MacGregor, President of BC/Yukon Command, and Snuneymuxw First Nation Chief, Michael Wyse. The theme of the Convention was Rise Again, a call for all members to renew their commitment to veterans.
