203 I was fresh off of my wings course on the C45 Expeditor and about as green as one can be, when I was selected to go on the “Herc” OTU in Trenton. I was thrilled as it was my first choice of posting. So, with the misplaced optimism of youth off I went. It turned out, at least for me, that the leap from the C-45 to the Hercules was large indeed. All in all, it was very humbling experience, but I did make it through the OTU and assigned to 435 Squadron. Namao. Arriving on squadron, I was mentored by several really great guys that managed to shepherd me through my fist couple of years before I was promoted to aircraft commander. Certainly, of all the guys that I flew with, the most memorable was Frank Fay.
