195 William Chrysler shown helping injured comrade Morris Piche in a 1951 (not at Kapyong) photograph taken by a U.S. Army photographer. William was a machine gun operator in the Battalion’s mortar platoon. During the Kapyong battle he and the platoon’s other machinegun operators fired on a large enemy formation that had circumvented the B Company position and was moving to attack the unit’s tactical headquarters. Their combined fire devastated the enemy assault party, estimated at around 100 soldiers, inflicting very heavy casualties, and forcing survivors to retreat.
