189 Canada in Kingston, Ontario. Ironically, Officer Cadet Trenter’s great grandfather Warrant Officer II Georgen Trenter was killed in action in Korea in October 1951 serving with William Chrysler’s 2nd Battalion, Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry. Greeting officials from the four Commonwealth nations, including their ambassadors and defence attaches was Gapyeong County Mayor Honourable Kim Seong-gi whose huge jurisdiction includes the Kapyong Battle sites, several villages and towns including the City of Gapyeong, many expansive tourist resorts and beautiful lakes and streams in an area that has some of the most beautiful gardens and scenery in all of Korea. He is shown with LGen Andrew Harrison DSO MBE, deputy commander of the United Nations Command, who began his duties in Korea in December. During the Korean War the United Nations Command land structure was actually the 8th U.S. Army, with military units from several UN Allied Nations attached to its units. The general commanding 8th Army was simultaneously headed the United Nations Command. The U.S. 8th Army and the separately commanded (from headquarters in Tokyo) U.S. X Corps comprised more than 95 percent of all allied land forces in Korea. Today it ensures compliance with the terms of the 1953 Military Armistice Agreement that ended the Korean War.
