13 A MESSAGE FROM PREMIER JOHN HORGAN As Premier of the Province of British Columbia, I extend my warmest welcome to readers of the 2022 edition of In the Service of Canada, published by the BC/Yukon Command of the Royal Canadian Legion. This annual publication shares the stories of those who have served our country with great valour and excellence. Many of them did not return home and those who did, returned with both visible and invisible injuries. For generations, Canadians have bravely risked their lives to defend our freedoms, and we must never forget their courage, commitment and sacrifice. As British Columbians, we are united in gratitude as we thank these heroes for their incredible dedication to protecting our values and helping make Canada and the world a better, safer place for all. I would also like to express my appreciation to the BC/Yukon Command for its efforts in supporting service members and their families, as well as promoting remembrance by celebrating and honouring those who have served and those who continue to serve.
