After moving to Entwistle, Alberta, he worked as a sheet metal worker until he enlisted in the 51st Battalion on January 21, 1915 in Edmonton. John served as a Corporal during World War One. No further information was available. Bassarab, Walter “Babe” Walter served in World War Two with the Royal Canadian Air Force from September 1940 to July 1945. He served in England, North Africa, Gibraltar, Malta and India and was decorated with Campaign ribbons and operation wings. Walter was a Life Member of The Royal Canadian Legion Valleyview Branch 140 where he served as Vice President for eleven years, Branch President for one year and Secretary Treasurer for nine years. He was also a building committee member for the Memorial Hall, Legion Park, and Cenotaph. Walter was decorated by the Branch with the Meritorious Service Medal. He died in 1988. Bear (Loader), Phyllis Phyllis was born in England in 1917. Her family moved to Millet, Alberta in 1928. Phyllis joined the Air Force in 1944 and served until the end of World War Two with the rank of Leading Aircraftwoman as a Meteorological Observer. After returning to Millet, Phyllis taught school and enjoyed gardening. When she retired, she was involved in many Seniors’ activities. Phyllis passed away in 2009.
