He enlisted in the Army in World War One and served as a sniper with the rank of Lance Corporal with the 89th Battalion, Nova Scotia Regiment in France. William was killed in action at Vimy Ridge on April 29, 1917 and he is buried in the Targette British Cemetery near Neuville-St. Vaast in France. In one letter home, he complained about the terrible weather but said the enemy “couldn’t make these Canadians downhearted if they poured hot lead on their heads.” His brother Frank also served in the Army in World War One and lost an eye in action. Barr, Donald James Donald was born on November 2, 1887, in Arnprior, Ontario. He served in the Army in World War One with the 12th Overseas Battalion in England and Scotland. Donald passed away in 1942. Barr, Milford Elmo Elmo was born in Kenora, Ontario in 1925. He was raised in Millet, Alberta, where he lived until he enlisted in the Army in 1943. He served during World War Two until 1945. After the war, Elmo moved to Jasper, Alberta. He passed away in 1983. His father served in World War One and his two brothers also served in World War Two.
