He enrolled in the Edmonton Military Institute in 1937 with the rank of Lieutenant. He joined the Militia, serving with 78th Field Battery R.C.A. and graduated from the Royal School of Artillery as a Captain. He enlisted in the Army on August 19, 1940 and was promoted to Major in 1942. He served in Canada, the United Kingdom, Belgium, and Holland. Michael was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, the Defence Medal, and the France and Germany Star. He returned to reserve status on March 11, 1946. He was promoted to Acting Lieutenant Colonel to command 116 Depot (Reserve Force) until November 1954, when he attained the rank of Colonel. Michael helped organize The Royal Canadian Legion Norwood Branch 178 and served as its first President in 1946 as well as in 1947, 1949, 1950, and 1953. He was awarded a Life Membership in December 1962 and the Meritorious Service Medal in 1966. Michael passed away in 1974. Tarapaski, Peter Peter was born on January 27, 1920. He served with the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps of Canadian Armed Forces for four-and-a-half years, serving overseas. Since returning to Innisfree after the war, he had farmed, been an oilfield driller, mechanic, and worked with electronics. Peter died in 1997. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Innisfree Branch 74. Tarleton, Clarence James Clarence was born in Lethbridge, Alberta in 1919. He served in the Royal Canadian Artillery from 1937 to 1938, the Calgary Highlanders for six months in 1939, and re-enlisted in the Royal Canadian Artillery in 1941, attending Artillery School until he went to the United Kingdom in 1942. Between 1943 and 1945 Clarence served in Italy, France, and Germany with the 5th Canadian Armored Division, 53rd Light Aid Detachment to the 2nd Canadian Armored Regiment Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians). He served with the Royal Canadian Electrical Mechanical Engineers, Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians) between 1951 and 1956. Between 1962 and 1966, he was a member of the Militia/Reserves with the Royal Canadian Electrical Mechanical Engineers, “A” Squadron 9 Technical Regiment (Calgary). He also served with the Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps, Royal Canadian Electrical Mechanical Engineers at the Canadian Armored workshop, and 56th Light Aid Detachment, to The Governor General’s Horse Guards. Clarence was awarded the Italy Star, the France and Germany Star, the 1939-1945 Star, the Defence Medal, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp, and the War Medal 1939-1945. Clarence was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion High River Branch 71. He died in 2011.
