After enlisting in the Army on December 28, 1941, John served as a Gunner with the 92nd Battery, 3rd Field Regiment in Canada, in the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, and Holland during World War Two. He was discharged in October 1945 and awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, Italy Star, 1939-1945 Star, Defence Medal, and France and Germany Star. John returned to Boyle after the war and resumed farming. He was a Life Member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 169 in Boyle. John passed away on February 21, 1995. Swan, R. R. Swan was an Irma and District World War One Veteran who died in active service. No further information was available. Sykes, Arthur Fairebough “Bill” Bill was born on May 27, 1893, in Doncaster, Yorkshire, England. He arrived in Canada in 1912 or 1913 and worked as a farmhand. Bill enlisted on March 10, 1915 in the 49th Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Forces. He was discharged in March 1919 with the rank of Sergeant. After the war, he farmed north of Lougheed, and after an accident in which he lost part of a leg, he moved into the town of Lougheed. Bill was a dedicated member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 180 in Lougheed, serving as Secretary-Treasurer for many years. He passed away in January 1957 and is buried in the Lougheed Cemetery.
