He came to Alberta in 1911 and filed a homestead in the Dovercourt district. Lou joined the Army in December 1915 in Red Deer, Alberta and reported for duty on January 2, 1916. He lost his right arm while serving on active duty overseas. He lived in the Dovercourt district for a few years after the war before moving to Rocky Mountain House where he ran a livery barn and was an auctioneer. Smith, Thed Curtis Thed was born inWainwright, Alberta. He served with the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War Two as a Flight Sergeant, Wireless Operator, and Air Gunner attached to 427 Squadron. Thed was killed in action on February 26, 1943. He is buried in the Groesbeck Canadian War Cemetery in the Netherlands. Smoliarchuk, John John was born in Russia on February 24, 1913. He immigrated to Canada and farmed in the Boyle area until he enlisted in the Army in January 1932. John served with the Canadian Scottish Regiment in Canada, England, Holland, Belgium, France, and Germany during World War Two. After being discharged with the rank of Private on May 31, 1946, he returned to his farm. John joined The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 169 in Boyle in 1978. He passed away in 1959.
