He served in South Africa in the Boer War, from 1899 to 1902. In 1903, he came west with his parents and family to live in the Pipestone Creek area west of Millet, Alberta. He joined the Alberta Police Force in 1917, and when the A.P.F. closed down, he joined the RCMP and served in Red Deer, Blairmore, Lethbridge, Crowsnest Pass, and Vegreville, Alberta. He was then transferred to Charlottetown, PEI where he was the Superintendent of the RCMP. He died on May 9, 1939 in Charlottetown and is buried in Calgary, Alberta. Scott, Jerry Jerry was born on November 6, 1919, in Scottsdale, Alberta and was raised in Millet, Alberta. Gerald enlisted in the Army in July 1942 and served for three and a half years until January 1946. He landed in North Africa with a Reinforcement Depot in June 1943 and was transferred to Sicily to the 1st Canadian Armoured Brigade, Three Rivers Regiment. He was involved in major battles at Ortona and Monte Cassino in Italy, and spent Christmas 1943 in Ortona. On March 4, 1945, the regiment moved to Western Europe and arrived in Holland on March 26. They remained there until the war ended. Gerald returned to Canada in December 1945 with the Calgary Tank Regiment and was discharged in January 1946. Gerald was a charter member of The Royal Canadian Legion Millet Branch 229 and became a Life Member. He died on August 30, 1996. Scott, Norman “Lester” Lester was born in Fort MacLeod, Alberta on February 3, 1923. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and was stationed in Vancouver, BC and Bedfordshire, England during World War Two. As a night operator pilot officer (2nd Lieutenant), Lester was part of the RAF’s Bomber Command. On January 7, 1945 his bomber was shot down over Munich, Germany, and all seven crew members were killed. Apparently, Lester had finished his tour of duty and was eligible to come home, where he was planning to get married, but his six crew mates decided to re-up and persuaded him to do so as well. They were shot down shortly thereafter.
