He served with the Austrian Army and fought on the Eastern Front against Russia. He was taken prisoner to a War Camp in Siberia. Before the war ended, he was released to the Western Ukraine. He then joined the Ukrainian Army. George died in 1984. Saik, Michael Michael was born on January 11, 1924, in Kalnikow, Western Ukraine. He enlisted in the Canadian Army, Unit R.C.E. in 1941. He trained in Grand Prairie, AB and Dundurn, SK. He went overseas to Britain in October 1941 and was assigned to the 2nd Canadian Infantry Division. His unit was involved in the D-Day invasion of Normandy. In 1944, he was wounded in the bitter fighting near Falaise Gap in France. After two months in hospital in England, he rejoined his unit in the Liberation of Holland. He returned to Canada on the “Ile de France” and was discharged in 1945. Michael died in July 1998. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Innisfree Branch 74. Sams, Walter Sydney Walter was born on November 8, 1889, in London, England. After immigrating to Canada, he worked as a farmer until he enlisted in the 51st Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force on February 6, 1915, in Edmonton. No further information was available.
