He grew up in the area and worked helping to clear land and farm the family homestead. Ray and his brother enlisted in the Army in Camrose, Alberta on April 14, 1942 under the National Resources Mobilization Act of 1940. He served with the Calgary Highlanders, taking basic and advanced training in Prince Rupert, British Columbia before being sent to serve in the United Kingdom and Continental Europe. Ray was discharged on February 1, 1946 and awarded the France and Germany Star. He returned to the Boyle area and continued farming. Ray passed away onAugust 2, 2009. His brother Ragnar also served in the Army during World War Two. Phoenix, Ethel Ethel was born in Ontario on October 8, 1025. She served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War Two. Ethel was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch in Osoyoos, BC and then Branch 169 in Boyle, Alberta. She passed away on April 22, 2000. Piche, William Samuel “Bill” Bill was born in Kerinsky, Alberta on September 16, 1922. He enlisted in the Army at Greisbach Barracks and took his basic training in Camrose, Alberta and Dundurn, Saskatchewan. Bill was then sent to England with the Canadian First Division Reconnaissance Regiment, Prince Louise Dragoon Guards and went on to see combat in Italy and Northwest Europe. Bill was awarded the 1939-1945 Star, Italy Star, France and Germany Star, Defence Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Overseas Clasp, and War Medal 1939-1945. After returning toAlberta, Bill worked in the oil industry for 34 years before retiring to a farm near Egremont, Alberta. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 251 in Redwater until he passed away on October 16, 2008.
