He served during World War Two with the 49th Battalion of the Loyal Edmonton Regiment in England, Italy, and Germany. James was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Montgomery Branch in Edmonton until he passed away in 1987. Nayowski, John John was born in Newbrook, Alberta on May 19, 1923. John enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in May 1942. He had hoped to fly but failed to qualify because he was colour blind. He was stationed in Edmonton, Calgary, Watson Lake, Winnipeg, Whitehorse, and Fort St. John in British Columbia helping maintain the airstrips built to help fly planes to Russia during World War Two. John was discharged in August 1945 with the rank of Leading Aircraftman. He was awarded the Victory Medal. John started playing ball with the Senior Army and Air Force vets out of Telus Field in downtown Edmonton. He obtained a Mechanics Certificate in 1950 and moved to Boyle, Alberta in 1955. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 169 in Boyle until he passed away on September 4, 2010. John’s wife Anne also served with the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War Two. Northwest, Archie Archie was a born in Hobbema on the Samson Cree Nation on November 4, 1921. He enlisted in the Army on January 7, 1952 in Edmonton, Alberta. He went to CFB Valcartier for training on May 16, 1952 and then went to Holland on November 29, 1952. Archie also served in Korea. He was discharged on September 11, 1953. Archie passed away on November 19, 1959.
