THE ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION ALBERTA-NWT COMMAND www.abnwtlegion.com 179 Johnson, Lloyd Russell Lloyd was born on September 20, 1923, in Millet. He was raised in Millet andWetaskiwin. He enlisted in the Army duringWorldWar Two and served as a Private with the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry in Italy. He was in the Army for three years and four months. Lloyd lived in Wetaskiwin, Alberta after he retired and enjoyed fishing and camping. Lloyd passed away in 1999. Johnston, Joshua “Jack” Jack was born in Ontario in 1891. He was living in the Edmonton area when he enlisted in the 9th Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force on August 18, 1914. Jack was wounded in the face by machine gun fire in France on May 27, 1915 in France and evacuated to England for treatment. Jack was discharged on May 20, 1919. Jack’s two brothers also served in the Canadian Expeditionary Force. Four of his five children served in World War Two. Jack passed away in 1975. Kanten, Ervin “Erv” Erv was born in North Dakota, USA, on September 20, 1910. His family came to Alberta on November 4, 1932 to homestead near Caroline. Erv joined the Army in 1942 and went overseas later that year with the Third Division of the First Hussars (Tank Corps). He was wounded on the 49th day of the invasion of France and came home on a stretcher in September 1944. Erv recovered, and in 1947 started his own garage and light plant, providing Caroline with its first electric lights. He sold to Calgary Power Co. in 1952 but kept operating the garage until 1975. Erv was a founding member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 177 in Caroline and held many executive positions, including that of President in 1966 and 1967. He passed away on June 28, 1987.
