THE ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION ALBERTA-NWT COMMAND www.abnwtlegion.com 177 Jevne, Norman A. Norman was born on August 13, 1920, in the Wang District northeast of Wetaskiwin. He lived in Wetaskiwin until he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1942. After training in Canada, he was sent overseas where he became a bombardier with the rank of Flying Officer and was a member of the Pathfinders. Norman served until 1945. In 1952, he re-enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force but some time later, lost his life in an accident on the station in Calgary. He is buried in the Wang Cemetery. Norman’s brother Evan (Buster) also served in the Canadian Forces during World War Two. Johansson, Birgit E. Birgit was born in Skellefteå, Sweden in 1918. She served with the Royal Canadian Air Force (Women’s Division) during World War Two. Birgit primarily was a parachute rigger serving at the base in Brantford, ON. She also trained in Guelph, ON as a wireless operator. As a member of the Women’s Division, she held the rank of L.A.W., and provided other roles including assisting at aircraft crash sites. She was a member of the #215 Ex. Service Women’s Branch in Edmonton. Birgit passed away in Stony Plain, Alberta on December 24, 2016, at the age of 98. Johnson, Gordon Thomas Gordon was born on March 5, 1920, in Fork Lake, Alberta. He was a loving young man who worked hard on the farm. He loved music and his siblings remembered him singing, whistling, yodeling and playingWilf Carter tunes on his guitar or violin. Gordon enlisted in the Army in 1941 and served as a Trooper with the 8th Princess Louise New Brunswick Hussars during World War Two. Gordon was killed in Italy on July 12, 1944 in a battle north of Rome. He is buried in the Caserta War Cemetery. A plaque in Gordon’s honor is mounted on a cairn in the Fork Lake Cemetery.
