THE ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION ALBERTA-NWT COMMAND www.abnwtlegion.com 175 Jackson, Douglas Douglas was born on December 30, 1918, in Viceroy, Saskatchewan. He was raised in the Grandview area southwest of Millet, Alberta. He enlisted in the Army during World War Two and served for four years. In 1944, he was posted to the Coastal Defence Unit in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Following the war, he moved to Kelowna, BC where he married and bought a store. In 1966, he bought a dairy farm at Armstrong, BC. Douglas also worked for the local school district until his retirement. He passed away in Vernon, BC on July 22, 1986 and is buried in Armstrong, BC. Jessop, George Sydney George was born in Elnora, Alberta in 1922. He served with the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry, 1st Division in Africa, Sicily, Italy, France, Belgium, and Germany during World War Two. George passed away in 2011. Jevne, Evan Theodore Lee “Buster” Buster was born on September 13, 1913 in the Wang District north east of Wetaskiwin, Alberta. He lived in Wetaskiwin until he enlisted in the Army in 1939. Buster served for six years during World War Two as a Trooper with the BC Dragoons and with the 9th Armoured Regiment CA Squadron. His unit fought its way up through Sicily and through Italy until it reached the Gothic line across Northern Italy. Buster’s tank was the first across. He was blown clear and wounded but a mine killed all his crew. Buster was also among the troops who liberated Holland in 1945. He passed away on April 20, 1968 from cancer caused by old wounds. He was laid to rest in Oliver, BC. His brother Norman also served in the Army during World War Two.
