THE ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION ALBERTA-NWT COMMAND www.abnwtlegion.com 171 Hoskins, James Ernest Thorne “Jim” Jim was born in Melfort, Saskatchewan on July 31, 1913. He joined the Army Reserve before World War Two and transferred to the Royal CanadianAir Force, serving from 1942 to 1946. After the war, Jim lived for many years in Wetaskiwin, Alberta where he worked as an investment certificate salesman and a stamp collector and dealer. Jim is now deceased. Hougestol, Russell Russell was born on June 25, 1920. In January 1942, he enlisted in the Army in Camrose, Alberta where he took his Basic training. He then took Advanced Training in Kingston, Ontario. Following this, Russell transferred to the 2nd Army Tank Brigade Workshop and took training at Camp Borden. In June 1943, he was sent overseas and served in France. Russell returned to Canada in September 1945 and was discharged at Wetaskiwin, Alberta. Russell is now deceased. Russell’s brothers, Gordon and Vernon, also served in the Canadian Armed forces. Howes, Sidney Micajah Sidney was born at Willow Farm in the Hillside District southwest of Millet, Alberta on October 8, 1922. He served in the Royal Canadian Air Force from 1942 until 1945 during World War Two. Sidney was a member of 121 Contingent where he became a Leading Aircraftman. After the war, he rejoined the Royal Canadian Air Force as an aeronautical engineer and a Captain. Sidney lived in Toronto and the Ottawa district while he served from 1961 with the Air Material Command Headquarters staff that provides materials and technical support for all R.C.A.F. formations. Sidney passed away on June 20, 1977.
