THE ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION ALBERTA-NWT COMMAND www.abnwtlegion.com 153 Ganderton, Russell Frederick “Rusty” Rusty was born in Wainwright, Alberta on July 12, 1916. He served with the Canadian Army Dental Corps (Active) from 1940 to 1945 in Canada, Britain, and Northwest Europe. He was discharged in Calgary in 1946 with the rank of Quartermaster Sergeant. Rusty returned to Wainwright and worked as a denturist. He passed away in July 1952. Ganske, Ferdinand Ferdinand was born in 1914. He served in World War Two in the Canadian Army. Ferdinand lived in Edmonton after the war. He passed away in 2005. His brother Walter also served in the Canadian Forces during World War Two. Gaulter, David William David was born on August 20, 1922, in the Fruitland District, Alberta and attended Fruitland and Sandy Lake schools. He enlisted in the Loyal Edmonton Regiment in November 1942 and was sent to England in 1943. In February 1944, he served in Italy and then Holland, where he was seriously wounded. Dave was hospitalized in Holland and then flown to England where he spent another two months in hospital. He was then flown back to Canada to the Colonel Mewburn Hospital in Edmonton where he stayed for 22 months. David was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp, France and Germany Star, Italy Star, Defence Medal, and War Medal 1939-1945. After his discharge, David lived on the farm in the Fruitland District where he grew up. Although ill health eventually forced him to give up farming, David still enjoyed gardening, baking, and cooking. His greatest pleasure was dancing. David passed away on September 16, 2012. He had been a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Pioneer Branch 144 in Thorsby for 62 years.
