He enlisted in the Army on June 25, 1942 and served as a Sapper during World War Two in Canada, Britain, and Northwest Europe. Walter was discharged on July 20, 1946 and awarded the France and Germany Star, Defence Medal, 1939-1945 Star, and Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp. He lived in the Atmore, Alberta area after the war and was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 169 in Boyle. Walter passed away on September 23, 1980. Daly (Knight), Alice Alice was born in 1875. It is not known where Alice was born, but research indicates she was serving as a nurse during the Boer War where she met a wounded Australian soldier, Patrick Joseph Daly, her future husband. She and Patrick moved to Calgary in 1910 with plans to farm. She volunteered for nursing duty when World War One began and was sent to work in hospitals in France. After the war, she returned to Calgary and then moved to the Lougheed area. Alice died in August 1930 and is buried in the Lougheed Cemetery. Daly, Patrick Joseph Patrick was born in 1876 in Australia. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order while serving with the Cavalry in the Boer War. He was wounded in 1902 and met Alice Knight, his future wife, while recovering in the hospital. Patrick remained in Africa until he moved to Calgary, Alberta in 1910 where he started a partnership in the ownership of farms near Strathmore and Bellshill. Patrick volunteered with the 31st Battalion in Calgary in November 1914. He was given the rank of Captain but was soon promoted to Major, and then to Lieutenant Colonel when he transferred to the 27th Battalion (City of Winnipeg). After the war, he and his wife returned to Calgary and later moved to the farm south of Lougheed in 1919. Patrick died in February 1931 after an appendix operation. He is buried in the Lougheed Cemetery.
