He enlisted in the Army in 1942 and after completing basic training in Camrose, Alberta he was posted to the #13 Ordnance Depot in Calgary. In November 1942, he was sent to Eastern Canada for embarkation overseas but remained in Ontario for a year before returning to Calgary. Judd was then attached to a Scottish Unit in Jasper, Alberta to take care of the equipment for a ski unit from Scotland on a top-secret assignment. Judd was discharged on October 6, 1946 and returned to his farm in Redwater. He was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and the War Medal 1939-1945. Judd was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 251 in Redwater until he passed away in 2003. His brother also served in the Army during World War Two. Cookson, Ada Ada was born on April 2, 1879, in Lancashire, England. She immigrated to Canada with her family and settled in Tofield, Alberta. A graduate nurse, Ada enlisted in the Canadian Army Medical Corps in June 1915 and served throughout World War One. She passed away in San Francisco, California in 1943. Her brother Tom served in the Canadian Forestry Corps during World War One. Cookson, George Gerald Gerald was born in Lougheed on September 23, 1920 and attended school in Cambridge, south of Lougheed. During these years, he lived with his grandparents as his mother had died when Gerald was 18 months old. Gerald joined the 14th (Reserve) Army Tank Battalion (Calgary Regiment), Lougheed Detachment (AB 1941) but in August 1943, started pilot training at EFTS High River, Alberta. On October 20, 1943, he reported to #3 SFTS Calgary and achieved his Pilots Wings on March 10, 1944. Gerald was posted to #20A.F.U. Weston-on-the-Green, Oxfordshire, England on July 13, 1944 and 107 OUT Leicester East, England on October 10, 1944. He was posted to India on January 8, 1945. He served with No. 31 Squadron at Ramree, dropping supplies to the XIV Army in February 1945, and TSCU Baroda in August 1945. Gerald returned to England in December 1945 and served with 437 Squadron RCAF in Odiham, Hampshire. He returned to Canada on May 10, 1946. Gerald left the air force in 1953 and moved to Vancouver, BC. He died in a car accident there on May 13, 1967. Gerald’s father John served during World War One.
