THE ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION ALBERTA-NWT COMMAND www.abnwtlegion.com 119 Cloutier, Elzéar Elzéar was born in Cap-Saint-Ignace, Quebec, in 1892. He joined the 66th Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force in Edmonton on October 21, 1915. He trained at Sarcee Camp, Calgary before going to England on May 7, 1916. Elzéar went to France with the 49th Battalion on June 8, 1915, and saw action near Ypres. He suffered shrapnel wounds in both knees and in his right arm, and had one leg amputated. After suffering numerous infections, Elzéar was sent to the Orthopaedic Hospital in Toronto in March 1917 where more shrapnel was removed from his leg. He was discharged on September 3, 1918, and returned to his homestead near Falher in northern Alberta. Elzéar passed away in Edmonton on February 17, 1959, in Edmonton. Coady, James “Jim” Jim was born in Wetaskiwin, Alberta in 1920 and raised at Coal Lake, east of Millet, and in Millet. He enlisted in the Army in September 1939 and served two years in England before being sent to Gordon Head, Victoria, BC for officer training. Jim was then sent back to Europe as a Lieutenant with the Calgary Highlanders Regiment. He served in France, including the battles at Falaise and Caen, Holland, Belgium, and Germany. Jim held the rank of Acting Major when he was discharged. He worked in the nickel mines near Sudbury, Ontario after the war. Jim passed away in July 1983. Cochrane, Thomas James “Tom” Tom was born inYoung, Saskatchewan in 1913. He enlisted in the Army in 1944 and was stationed with the 13 D.D. Military District in Calgary, Alberta and in Nova Scotia until he was discharged in 1945. Tom lived in Millet after the war. He passed away in 1974.
