THE ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION ALBERTA-NWT COMMAND www.abnwtlegion.com 109 Calder, William D. “Bill” Bill served as a Sapper with the 33rd Field Company, Royal Canadian Engineers in Canada, Britain, France, Belgium, Holland, and Germany. He re-enlisted in 1955, serving with the 8th Field Regiment RCE until 1973, rising from Sapper to retire as the Regimental Sergeant Major. Bill passed away on April 30, 2010. Caldwell, Eldon Howard Eldon was born on November 12, 1920, in Brockett, Alberta along with his twin brother, Melvin James Caldwell. They grew up in Taylorville. In 1941, Eldon joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and after training for a year, received his wings and was sent overseas. He landed in England in September 1942 and died on January 26, 1943 when his Spitfire plane collided mid-air with another aircraft. Eldon was the only occupant of the Spitfire and he was presumed to have drowned in the Severn River between England and Wales. He was only 22 years old. Eldon’s name is inscribed on the Runnymede Memorial in the United Kingdom. Calif, Dorcie Clark Dorcie was born in Hebron, Nebraska, U.S.A. in 1894. He enlisted inWorld War One with the Canadian Army and served with the 13th Canadian Mounted Rifles and the Royal Canadian Expeditionary Force in France. He died in 1955.
