He joined the CanadianArmy Medical Corps on June 11, 1941 and took basic training at Camrose, Alberta. He was then sent to Ottawa prior to being sent to England in 1942. Frank was captured at the Battle of Dieppe on August 19, 1942 and spent the next two and a half years in a German POW Camp. His legs became paralyzed due to malnutrition and he was in a POW hospital for a while. When he recovered, Frank worked as an orderly in the same hospital, where he was given the nickname “Barney”. After returning to Canada, he was discharged onApril 14, 1945. He was awarded the 1939-1945 Star, Defence Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Silver Clasp, and War Medal 1939-1945. After living in Ottawa for a year, Frank returned to Alberta. He didn’t talk very much about his ordeal in the POW camp, but he did say he would never have survived without the packages he received from the Canadian Red Cross. Frank passed away in Calgary on July 30, 1999. His brother Roy also served in the Army during World War Two. Brown, Harry M. Harry was born in Alberta in 1932. He served in the Army during World War Two with the 2nd Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry. Harry was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Morinville Branch 176 for 36 years until he passed away in 2007. Brown, Roy John Roy was born in Sunnyslope, Alberta in 1922. He served in the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps during World War Two in Europe. Roy was awarded the 1939-1945 Star, France and Germany Star, Defence Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Silver Clasp, and War Medal 1939-1945. He was discharged on February 13, 1946. Roy lived in Calgary for many years until he passed away in 2008. His brother Frank also served in the Army during World War Two.
