After immigrating to Canada, he lived in Edmonton, Alberta until he enlisted in the 51st Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force on January 19, 1915. He transferred to the 46th Battalion (Saskatchewan Regiment) and was killed in action on October 25, 1916 in the Battle of the Somme. Having no known grave, Charles is remembered on the Vimy Memorial. Brady, Joseph Gordon Joseph was born in Ponoka, Alberta on April 16, 1916. He served with the 17th Field Ambulance in Ponoka from January 11 to April 2, 1940. He was in the Special Reserve, posted to No. 2 Manning Depot in Brandon, Manitoba. Joseph joined the RCAF in 1941 with the rank of T/F/Sgt., as an Air Gunner. He served in the United Kingdom and Continental Europe. He was awarded the Air Gunner Badge in 1942. Joseph was killed in action on May 16, 1943 during raids on the Mohne, Edersee, Sorpe, and Schwelm Dams. At Ponoka Legion Branch 66, his name is on the Honour Roll for those who gave the supreme sacrifice in World War Two. Brewster, Walter George Henry Walter was born on June 25, 1921, in Josephine, Saskatchewan. He moved with his family to the Strawberry District inAlberta in 1926 and worked for local farmers and in sawmills. Walter enlisted in the Army in 1942. After completing basic training in Camrose, Alberta, he was transferred to London, Ontario to train for four months as a motor mechanic. He was then sent to Fort Knox in Kentucky to take a special course on U.S. tanks before being assigned to Camp Borden, Ontario to work on Army equipment. He remained at Camp Borden until he was discharged on February 13, 1946. He was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. Walter returned to farming, but eventually sold his farm in 1975 to move to the Village of Thorsby, where he worked as a cabinet maker and was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Pioneer Branch 144 for 49 years. Walter passed away in Thorsby in October 2009.
